Surfaces is a feel-good indie folk bop with a serious message of anti-racism, looking hard at Eurocentric colonial history, questioning white privilege and the labels it places on the "other".

My ancestors oppressed people all around the world
Tortured killed enslaved them for their lifestyle and colour,
An angry little island with a sprawling empire
Run by greedy white men who were drunk on power

I carry their shame of centuries written in my skin
Although to modern me all people equal kin
